2 week agoSomali government forces clashed with al-Shabaab militants on Sunday at the former military camp, Daynunay, just 18km south of Baidoa. The Somali government forces’ original target was Baidoa, where a regional leader @Laftagareen was “re-elected” through indirect vote, in defiance of federal government leadership’s plan to hold popular elections. But to reach Baidoa, the troops had to first pass through a checkpoint controlled by the militants. There are reports of many casualties. The ministry of defense says 21 militants were killed

The UAE military appears to be withdrawing from its key base at Bosaso Airport in Puntland. The UAE Air Force C-130 military transport aircraft that had been stationed there is no longer present and appears to have returned to the UAE earlier this week.

3 month agoThe Somali government announced that an operation conducted along with the U.S. deep inside al-Shabaab territory resulted in the killing of 18 militants and the destruction of an explosives production and preparations factory.
